What we see in Winston

Winston sits along the South Umpqua just southwest of Roseburg, and the plumbing picture changes depending on which side of town you're on. In town you're on city water and sewer and the work looks like anywhere else. Head out toward Lookingglass or Tenmile and you're into wells, pressure tanks and septic systems.

That distinction matters more than people expect, because the same symptom means different things. No water in town is usually a supply line or a regulator. No water on a well could be the pump, the pressure switch, or the tank — and diagnosing it as a plumbing problem when it's a pump problem wastes everybody's money.

We also work Dillard (97432), Tenmile (97481), Lookingglass and the Green district between Winston and Roseburg.

Why Winston calls us

What you get from Plummer's Plumbing

We can tell a well problem from a plumbing problem

If your issue is on the pump side of the system, we'll say so rather than billing you to chase it through the house. Knowing where our work stops is part of the job.

Septic-aware drain work

Clearing a drain on a septic system isn't the same as clearing one on city sewer. What goes down the line and how hard you push matters when the destination is a tank in your yard.

Familiar with the valley's older properties

River-valley homes around Winston have their own patterns — outdoor lines that freeze, crawlspaces that stay damp, and additions plumbed by whoever was around.

Winston questions

Frequently asked

I'm on a well. Can you still help me?

Yes for everything on the house side of the pressure tank — fixtures, water heaters, drains, leaks, repipes. If the trouble turns out to be the pump or the well itself, we'll tell you plainly so you can get the right specialist instead of paying us to guess.

Is my slow drain a clog or my septic tank?

If every drain in the house is slow at once, suspect the tank or the drain field before the pipes. If it's one fixture, it's almost always a local clog. A camera in the line settles it quickly.

Why do my outdoor lines fail every winter?

Usually an unprotected hose bib or a line run through an uninsulated crawlspace. Both are fixable permanently rather than re-repaired every February.

Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

Sulfur bacteria, and where it's coming from tells you what to do. If the smell is only on the hot side, it's a reaction with the anode rod in your water heater and the rod can be swapped. If it's hot and cold both, the issue is in the well or the water itself and you're looking at treatment rather than a plumbing repair.

My pump keeps kicking on and off. Is that normal?

No — that's short cycling, and it's usually a pressure tank that has lost its air charge or a failing pressure switch. Left alone it burns out the pump, which is the expensive part of the system. Worth looking at before it becomes a pump replacement.

Can you clear a drain if I'm on septic?

Yes, but it changes the approach. Chemical drain cleaners are hard on the bacteria a septic system depends on, and aggressive jetting into a tank that's already full doesn't help anybody. We check whether the problem is the line or the tank first.
